Gift from the Walnut Tree
Walnut trees produce nuts thru a two-year process. Flowers produced in a given year do not mature into nuts
until the following year. This is a natural rhythm that prevents a walnut tree from over-extending its resources.
In 4 years I had not seen a single nut from this majestic tree. Even if the squirrels were quicker than I was,
they had not left behind any trace of shells. However, during one winter morning walk, I was delighted to discover
a single precious walnut. Either thru the generousity of the resident squirrels or a gift from the gnomes,
I was now the happy recipient of a beautiful black walnut.
In thanking my benefactor, I opened the nut to find this simple treasure of a double heart.
